Cooking Hints

1. Start with a clean kitchen...  end with a clean kitchen    You will learn to love cooking and so will your kids. Cooking together is a great way to spend time with your kids and accomplish what needs to be done.

2. Start with a sink half full of hot soapy dishwater, as you cook and use utensils wash them and put them up. Starting with just a half full sink will let you add hot water to it as you clean.

3. Always check first and make sure you have ALL of the ingredients in the correct amounts that it calls for in your recipe.

4. Keep the utensils that you use the most in a convenient place and make sure to put them up every time.

5. Don't be afraid to experiment with your recipes. Be bold but think about what goes good together.

6. Instead of buying the more expensive cooking sprays, use an "Oil-O-Pump". You can put your own vegetable cooking oil in it and save money. You can keep a couple and fill with olive oil, canola, or corn oil. But you can't put oil that will get hard, like melted butter. You can get them at any of the "home" stores such as Linens and Things or Bed, Bath and Beyond. My sis got me one for Christmas, I love it! They sell these at some WalMarts now!

7. If you don't have a spoon rest for your stove or counter, get a saucer and use it instead
and keep your counter or stove from getting greasy!

8. Keep a good hand cream on or near the sink to do your hands with once you are finished washing up!

9. If you don't have a vegetable brush to wash your potatoes, or other vegetables, use
a scrungie, the kind they sell to wash teflon pans, or you can get a softer small hair brush (new from the store) to wash off your vegetables when they come out of the garden!

10. If you want to keep your fruit salad or sliced apples a little fresher for your kids lunches,
buy a small spray bottle in the sample isle for just under a dollar, wash it good, dry it good,
put some lemon juice in it and keep it in the fridge! When you need to, just spay that fruit salad or those sliced apples or any fruit or veggie you want to keep fresh.
